Empowering Youth Through Music and Arts

We are a not-for-profit organisation and a community/voluntary group dedicated to empowering young people through music and arts.

Transforming Lives Since 2015

Since 2000 (under our former name, Integrity Beatz), we have been actively working with communities, witnessing firsthand the profound impact music has on daily lives, particularly among younger generations. This inspired us to formalise our mission and establish Aswad Arts as a frontline project. Leveraging our skills and experience as homegrown influencers, we aim to encourage positive pathways through bespoke music and arts workshops, offering both relatable and unconventional subjects.

Having been deeply involved in community work—especially during pivotal moments like the Bradford Riots and more recent unrest—we have intensified our efforts to combat anti-social behaviour (ASB) at its roots. We collaborate with officials to provide diversionary programs that steer young people away from negative mindsets and attitudes toward authority. By using music as a tool, we aim to improve mental health, re-engage youth in education, employment, and training (EET), and promote positive lifestyle choices.

Music truly breaks down barriers!

Our Impact

Over the years, our work has empowered hundreds of local young people to engage in positive, productive activities. Through our programs, participants build confidence, develop creativity, and learn the value of reflection. Our collaborative activities equip young people with essential life skills such as time managementself-discipline, and responsibility.

Many of the young people we work with are vulnerable or in need of support. They may face challenges such as negative influences, unstable environments, or harmful media consumption. We are here to show them that there are positive alternatives. Through group discussions, reflection, and critical thinking, we highlight the risks of anti-social behaviour and offer constructive pathways for growth.

Music breaks down barriers, and we use it as a universal language to connect, inspire, and transform lives.

Our Plan

Our vision is to collaborate with other projects and programs to establish a long-term, self-sustainable Project Centre and Outreach Service. We plan to host workshops and events across the city and district, showcasing talent and supporting young people in the creative music and arts sectors.

Over the years, we have been fortunate to receive support from numerous funders, organisations, mentors, role models, and local artists. Their continued guidance and partnership are invaluable as we work toward a brighter future for our youth. Our partners span all three sectors: privatepublic, and voluntary.

How We Make a Difference

At ASWAD ARTS, we take a holistic approach to youth engagement. Our programs are designed to address the unique needs of each young person, providing them with the tools and support they need to succeed.

Key Components of Our Approach:

  1. Creative Workshops:

    • We offer workshops in urban music genres, including DJing, rap, spoken word, and music production.

    • Participants learn about the evolution of music technology, from vinyl to digital streaming.

  2. Mentorship Programs:

    • We pair young people with relatable role models who guide them through their creative journeys.

    • Our mentors share their own experiences, helping participants build confidence and self-belief.

  3. Crime Diversion Programs:

    • We work with the West Yorkshire Police Early Action Team to provide early intervention for young people at risk of entering the criminal justice system.

    • Our programs offer alternatives to anti-social behaviour, helping young people stay on the right path.

  4. Community Engagement:

    • We collaborate with local organisations, schools, and community centres to provide sustainable, long-term support for young people.

    • Our goal is to create a network of support that empowers young people to thrive.
